Alright, I admit it. I’m a train nut as well. About 12 months ago, Carol and I did a Steamrail Victoria trip to Seymour, with visits to three local wineries before the return trip. This was an absolutely fantastic day – Steamrail Victoria (http://www.steamrail.com.au) does a great job and deserves your support. Here’s some of [...]

Melbourne Zoo

I love a zoo. Most importantly, I love going to zoos on my own. Why? Because it means I can spend as much time as I like looking at my favourite animals and getting the perfect photo. I can spend a good half to three quarters of an hour tinkering with settings on the camera [...]
Extra Connex People At Parliament Station

So what’s the extra Connex people on the platforms at Parliament station achieving? The cynics amongst us might say it gives the company more visibility close to where key contract decisions get made. Wouldn’t it be better spending the money on having more suburban stations manned and making the service safer at night?
Werribee Open Range Zoo

We’ve had a couple of free tickets to the Werribee Open Range Zoo stuck on the fridge for a while. When we looked at them the other day, we realised they expired in a week or so, so decided to go and check it out today. I’d been to Werribee Zoo a couple of times [...]

To recap, Part 1 saw Carol and me travel from Melbourne to Banff. Part 2 covered Banff to Calgary and has us in a cab to Calgary airport. The flight to Ottawa was uneventful although I get the feeling Air Canada saw us coming when we checked in. We got slugged $100 for excess baggage – [...]

Readers of Part 1 will know that we’d worked our way from Melbourne to Banff. The next morning, I was back at the railway station to see Rocky Mountaineer heading off on its return journey to Vancouver. We were then transferred to our coach for a day trip that turned out to be as equally [...]

22 May this year will be exactly 12 months from the day that Carol & I left to go to Canada. I thought I’d blog about that trip. Why? Twelve months on, I wanted to force myself to think about everything we did, because we had such a great time, and truth be known it’s [...]
My Photo On Rocky Mountaineer Web Site

Carol and I travelled on the Rocky Mountaineer in May 2008, the train that runs through the Rockies between Vancouver and Banff. I submitted one of more than 2,000 photos I took to their photo competition. Didn’t win anything, but was wrapped to find a thumbnail of it on their website last night. Wow! It’s [...]
My Banner Picture

Thousands of people have asked where my banner picture was taken. Well, that’s not quite true. No one’s asked. But I’ll tell you anyway. The photo was taken at Lake Louise in Canada in May 2008. It is the lake, semi-frozen, and the Fairmont Resort in the background. The scenery was absolutely spectacular. The stay at [...]

With Gina & Alex now having moved from home, and Tom being a bit lacking in the reliability department, heading away for a break now presents a bit of a challenge. Why? Because of a big black labrador / rottweiller cross called Spike, and a golden cocker spaniel / beagle / terrier / whatever else called [...]
